PM Modi in G7 session

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday addressed the G7 summit session on food security and gender equality, during which he emphasized that India’s vision has shifted from women’s development to women-led development. Modi also suggested that to ensure food security, focus should be on availability of fertilizers, structured system for harnessing Indian agricultural talents, nutritious alternatives like millets and natural farming.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted, “PM @narendramodi addresses @G7 session on Food Security & Gender Equality, shares India’s experiences in these areas. Emphasizes that India’s vision for Women Development from ‘Women-led development’.” In another tweet, he said, “(Prime Minister) suggested the following focus areas to ensure food security: 1. Availability of fertilizers 2. Structured system for harnessing Indian agricultural talents 3. Nutritious alternatives like Bajra 4. Natural Farming,” he said in another tweet.

Earlier, in his remarks at the session ‘Investing in a Better Future: Climate, Energy, Health’ at the G7 summit here, Modi stressed that India’s dedication to climate commitments is evident from its performance. He also expressed hope that the rich countries of the G-7 would support India’s efforts in tackling climate change and invited them to tap the huge market for clean energy technologies emerging in the country.

Ahead of the start of the summit, Prime Minister Modi shook hands with US President Joe Biden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as leaders gathered for a group photo. The Group of Seven (G7) is an intergovernmental political grouping consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The European Union is a ‘non-counting member’.

The German Presidency has invited Argentina, India, Indonesia, Senegal and South Africa to the G7 summit in Elmau, Bavaria. Modi is attending the G7 summit at the invitation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
