Prabhudheva reveals he tore his ligaments when he shot for the iconic dance number ‘Muqabla’: ‘Danced the entire song on my right foot’
Prabhudheva is a man of many talents – actor, dancer, choreographer and filmmaker but fans love him as a dancer, thanks to his songs like “Urvashi Urvashi” and “combat combat”, However, very few people know that the dancer was in extreme pain while shooting for the song ‘Muqabla’ from the 1994 film Kadhalan.
In a new interview, the actor-choreographer revealed how he shot for the song with a crepe bandage on his left leg. But he was so obsessed that he didn’t think about the pain and realized how bad it was only after he got home.
sharing how he injured his leg, Prabhu Deva Told O2india, “Before Muqabla, we had a fight sequence in the film Kaadhalan and while shooting for it, I tore my ligament. I didn’t understand, I didn’t know what a ligament was. But I couldn’t even walk. In the song “Anavale”, I’ve never been gone. I only went for a short sequence. After ‘Enawale’, the actor was supposed to shoot for ‘Muqabla’.

He shared, “I couldn’t move my left leg, it was very painful. Everyone knows there is a ligament tear… brain was the same. So, I danced the entire Muqabla song on my right leg only. Full load I used to put on the right foot. I tied a crepe bandage on the left foot. I wore different sizes of shoes, in one foot I wore a size 9 and for the other I wore a size 10. So, the whole song, I just danced like this.
Prabhudeva said that he danced in that excruciating pain because he was “young” at the time and for him dance preceded pain. He said, “I felt pain only after coming home. Nothing mattered while dancing. I had tied the bandage so tight, the shoe was too tight. More than the pain, the crepe bandage was tough for me.”
The choreographer-filmmaker recreated the song in Remo D’Souza’s 2019 film Street Dancer 3D. He was as comfortable in the song as he was in the 1994 version. The original song was composed by AR Rahman and rehashed by Tanishk Bagchi.
