Professor Kavita Suri conducts workshop on ‘Gender Sensitization’ at University of Mumbai
Jammu, March 19: Dr. Kavita Suri, Professor and former Director, Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu conducted a workshop on “Understanding Gender and Sensitization” for the University of Mumbai today. The workshop was organized by Thakur College of Science and Commerce, Thakur Village, Kandivali (East) under the aegis of University of Mumbai.
Workshop for IT&DS students in collaboration with IQAC for IT&DS students under the leadership of Trustee Thakur Jitendra Singh, General Secretary with an aim to sensitize the youth towards gender issues prevalent in the society Initiatives for IT&DS students Was. Others present in the workshop included Principal Dr. Smt. Chaitli Chakraborty, Onkar Singh, Coordinator – Data Science, Dr. Santosh K. Singh, Head, Department of IT & Workshop, Jyotsna Antal, Senior Faculty, Department of IT & DS, were present. Dhruvi Swadia, Program Coordinator, other faculty members and students.
Pro. Suri, who is also a former member of J&K State Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights, Government of J&K, and has worked extensively on women’s issues, while speaking in a highly interactive session, explained the concept of gender sensitization video And in a very effective and engaging way with the help of exercises.
She interacted very effectively with the audience and conducted brainstorming sessions to clear doubts as well as activities to inculcate gender-neutral thinking among the students.
She said that gender sensitization is an act of promoting sensitivity and behavior modification through increasing awareness of gender equality concerns.
“There is an urgent need to create awareness among students as well as professionals about the importance of gender sensitivity in an organization. It helps in understanding the opposite sex in a better way,” said Prof. Suri.
Dr. (Mrs.) Chaitli Chakraborty, while addressing the workshop, exhorted the students to bring change at the family level with respect to gender issues which are deeply ingrained in our society, she emphasized on the need for gender sensitization workshops and Congratulations to the professor. Suri for conducting a workshop on a very relevant issue.
Dr. Chakraborty also pointed out that his college, Thakur College, has achieved stupendous growth in the last two decades in its journey of excellence in education and has emerged as a leading higher education institution in Mumbai. The college has completed 3 cycles of NAAC with A grade in 3rd cycle in September 2016 and has been granted autonomy by UGC, New Delhi for 10 years in the academic year 2019-2020 and gradually with 31 programs Entered third year. Earlier, Mr. Omkar Singh, Coordinator – Data Science delivered the welcome address.
The workshop was followed by discussion and meaningful interventions by the students and other faculty members of the department. The presentation was confirmed by a screening of educative and powerful videos on gender construction and the process involved. Dr. Santosh K. IT Department Head Singh presented the vote of thanks.
