The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two senior officials, including an Indian Telecom Service (ITS) officer of the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) posted in Pune, on charges of bribery of Rs one lakh for withholding inspection reports. of a private company, the agency said on Wednesday.

The CBI has identified the arrested officers as Naresh Badawath, an ITS officer posted as Assistant Divisional Engineer Telecom in the office of Advisor, Maharashtra License Service Area (MH LSA), Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, and Jaykumar Thorat, Director. (Technology-II), who was posted in the same office.
“A case was registered when it was alleged that the Assistant Divisional Engineer Telecom did not send the inspection query report from the complainant and the queries found during the inspection of the complainant’s company amounted to three lakh rupees to avoid adverse action of DoT. undue advantage was sought. , Later, the amount was fixed at Rs two lakh and the first installment of Rs one lakh was to be disbursed,” the CBI said in a press statement.

“CBI had laid a trap. The Assistant Divisional Engineer accepted a bribe of one lakh rupees from the complainant and called the Director (Technology-II) to share the bribe amount with him. Both the accused were caught and apprehended by the CBI. Officials said the arrests were made late Monday night.

Officials said searches were conducted at the residential and office premises of both the accused in Pune, in which incriminating documents were recovered. Cash amount of Rs 5.67 lakh was recovered from the residence of Assistant Divisional Engineer Telecom.

Both the arrested accused were produced in the court of Special Judge for CBI Cases in Pune and were remanded to CBI custody till September 22.
