Rahul Dravid said that a batsman should have played more innings in the first Test for the team.
Team India head coach Rahul Dravid said that the team lost because of scoring 70-80 less pace in the first innings. India lost the match by 28 runs despite leading by 190 runs in the first innings of the Hyderabad Test.
On the other hand, after the game on Sunday, the captain of the England team, Ben Stokes, said that this is the biggest victory in his career as a captain. The second match of the 5-Test series between India and England will be played in Visakhapatnam from February 2.
No one played a big innings – Dravid
Dravid said, ‘The pitch was tough for batting on the fourth day. I can’t blame the batsmen too much but I think we scored less than 70 runs in the first innings on the second day, at that time the pitch was good for batting. The batsmen started well but nobody could score big. Nobody scored a century, nobody played big innings. That’s why we were behind by 70-80 runs in the first innings.
Team India lead by 190 runs by scoring 436 runs in the first innings. England scored 420 runs in the second innings.
Pope took a good shower
Dravid said- ‘We shouldn’t have had a target of 231 runs. Pope played a good innings and took England to such a big score. His innings was the difference between the two teams. He played dangerous shots and kept scoring runs. It was amazing to score 196 runs on that kind of pitch, when no other batsman in the team could score a fifty.
‘I have never seen any team play such amazing sweeps and reverse sweeps. It is difficult to play such shots in front of a quality bowling line-up. We will now boo against these shots with a better plan.
Hartley also bowled well
Dravid said, ‘It’s dangerous to use the legs against a left-arm spinner on the pitch on the fourth day. In these conditions, more runs can be scored only through sweeps and reverse sweeps. We will also focus on batting with a better plan in the upcoming matches.
Biggest win for Stokes
England captain Ben Stokes said it was the biggest win of his captaincy career. Stokes will take charge of the England Test team in June 2022. He said, ‘Under my captaincy we have won many big games, some games have been extraordinary. But this time, the type of team and pitch we fought and won, 100% this is the biggest victory under my captaincy.
I learned from the mistakes of the first innings, I saw how the Indian spinners bowled. Seeing his field position, I put the field in the second innings and it worked. Pope and Hartley made great comebacks in the second inning. As a team we played well.
