New Delhi: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi has expressed concern over the flood situation in Assam. He also appealed to the party leaders and workers to help the affected people. He tweeted, “Millions of people have been affected by the catastrophic floods in Assam. I urge Congress workers and leaders to provide all possible assistance in rescue and relief operations. “
It is believed that the situation in Assam has deteriorated due to floods and rains, more than 700,000 people in 29 districts of the state have been affected, so far 9 people have been killed and several are missing. Heavy rains continue in the state. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, more than 1413 villages have been submerged. Of these, Nagaon is the worst affected, with 2.88 lakh people affected. About 1.2 lakh people in Kachhar and more than 1.07 lakh people in Hojai have been affected by the floods.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, people are facing difficulties due to floods and landslides. Landslides have occurred in some parts of the state in the last few days. Catastrophic landslides and waterlogging have caused extensive damage to other infrastructure, including bridges, roads and railway tracks.
Meanwhile, the Kachhar district administration has issued an order to close all educational institutions, including government and private and non-government institutions, for the next two days. According to the notice issued by the district administration, the order will be effective from 6 am on May 19 for the next 48 hours.
