Repeated fruitless meetings over arrears of wages, coal workers on agitation across the country

#Venkateswar Lahiri, Kolkata: In addition to the state, the central labor unions of the coal industry have called for strike day on December 9 across the country. The organizations alleged that the workers associated with the coal industry are not getting their salaries as per the contract from July 1, 2021.

The union leaders held one-on-one meetings with the Coal India authorities over the salary issue. But, no solution emerged from any meeting. So this time it is not a discussion, it is a warning to start a direct movement. Meanwhile, if all the coal workers’ organizations across the country go on a strike, there is a danger of disrupting the coal mining process.

According to labor union sources, yesterday, Wednesday, an important meeting was held at the Coal India office in Kolkata with the labor union leadership and authorities regarding the salary agreement. In that meeting, without finding any solution, the central labor unions are now on the path of agitation. In Wednesday’s meeting, the central trade union leaders demanded a minimum granted benefit of 28%. But the mine authorities refused to accept it.

After the bilateral meeting between JBCCI and the mining authorities became fruitless, the labor unions are going to observe the nationwide dispute day on the 9th of this month. Besides, a joint platform of central labor organizations has also called for a mass labor convention in Ranchi on January 7.
