Retired Supreme Court Chief Justice AM Agamathi passed away

Retired Supreme Court Chief Justice A.M. Ahmadi (90) passed away on Thursday.

Appointed as a Supreme Court judge in 1988, Ahmadi took over as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in 1994. He served as the 3rd Islamic Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and retired in 1997.

He also chaired two committees (1990-1994) namely the Supreme Court Free Legal Aid Committee and the Committee to Monitor the Implementation of the Free Legal Aid Scheme in India.

Earlier, Justice Ahmadi took charge as a judge of the lower court in Ahmedabad, Gujarat in 1964 and took charge as a judge of the Gujarat High Court in 1976.

Justice Ahmadi has also served as Chancellor of Aligarh Islamic University in Uttar Pradesh for 2 terms.
