Pune: Another defeat for Hyderabad in the IPL. Kolkata lost by 54 runs in a league match on Saturday. Kolkata won the toss and elected to bat, scoring 177/6 in 20 overs. Umran (3/33) impressed in the Raiders bowlers. Then Hyderabad played all the overs and were limited to 123/8. All but Abhishek and Markram (32) failed. Russell received the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
Russell Lightning ..
At first, Kolkata did not get off to a good start in batting. Jansen, who dismissed Venkatesh (7) in the second over, gave the Raiders a break. Then Rahane (28) and Nitish Rana (26) played cautiously for a while. Rana accelerated the innings with 4, 6, 6 in the fifth over, which was slow at first but played by Natarajan. Both of them hit Chero Six in the next over as well. However, in two overs in a row, Rahane, along with Rana, dismissed captain Shreyas (15) and Umran damaged KKR. With this, Kolkata, which was 83/4 in 10 overs, looked in good shape. But the KKR innings went sloppy in the middle as the Hyderabad bowlers bowled consistently. Natarajan gave another break in the 12th over by dismissing Rinku Singh (5). Russell and Billings (34) sparkled at this point. Billings hit two fours in the 16th over and Russell Chero in the 17th over. Natarajan bowled a six off Billings to cross the 150 mark. Billings was bowled out for 19 in 19 overs and Russell hit three sixes in the final over by Sundar.
Raisers do not fight ..
The Raiders started the chase slowly. Nana struggled to bring speed on the scoreboard as the Kolkata bowlers bowled consistently. Captain Williamson (9), who came to the opening with Abhishek, once again played slowly and was criticized. Russell bowled him in the sixth over but he scored 31/1 in the power play. Abhishek, who hit two sixes in the Narine over at this stage, tried to pacify the innings. Abhishek played cautiously along with Markram in the failed phase of Tripathi (9). But in successive overs, Abhishek and Nicholas Pooran (2) fell behind. Umesh bowled 99/5 in 14.4 overs to put the Raiders in deep trouble. In the lower order, Shashank Singh (11), Jansen (1), Sundar (4) and Bhubaneswar (6 not out) failed to keep Hyderabad at bay.
