New Delhi: Former Punjab Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta has been appointed Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). At the same time, the Government of India has appointed IPS Swagat Das as Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs. He is currently the Special Director for the Intelligence Bureau.
Dinkar Gupta is a 1987 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) Punjab cadre officer. The Cabinet Appointments Committee has approved the appointment of Gupta as Director General of the NIA till March 31, 2024, the date of his retirement.
Capt Amarinder Singh was replaced by Charanjit Singh Channi as the Chief Minister of Punjab last year and was removed as the state DGP and transferred to the Police Housing Corporation.
