Shotgun World Cup: Ganimat wins silver, Darshana bronze
Almaty (Kazakhstan) : Ganimat Sekhon and Darshana Rathod ended their campaign at the Shotgun Shooting World Cup on a high by winning silver and bronze medals respectively in the women’s skeet competition on Friday.
India’s 22-year-old Ganimat was leading by five points in the title clash but missed the last 10 targets to lose 2-1 to Kazakhstan’s Asem Orinbey. On the other hand, 21-year-old Darshana equaled the national record while qualifying with the second best score of 120. She beat the shooters from Cyprus, Czech Republic and Greece to win the bronze medal.
This was Ganimat’s second singles medal at the World Cup after winning a bronze in Delhi. This was his first singles medal in the international circuit for Darshan. National champion Maheshwari Chauhan shot 108 to be ranked 26th in the list of 35 players. In men’s skeet, Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Gurjot Khangura shot 119 to finish 17th and 19th in the list of 75 players. Anantjit Singh Naruka (118) finished 23rd. India finished third in the medal table behind Greece and Kazakhstan with silver and bronze medals.
