Shuvendu Adhikari filed a case against Abhishek for holding a procession on the national highway
Parijat Mollah: State opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari filed a public interest litigation against Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee in the division bench of the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court on Thursday.
Claim in the case, Abhishek Banerjee marched on the national highway without permission. The application may be heard in the division bench of Calcutta High Court Chief Justice TS Shivagnam and Justice Hiranmoy Bhattacharya on June 7.
This case was filed in Calcutta High Court on behalf of Subvendu’s lawyer. He alleged that in May this year, Abhishek marched in Itahar and Farakka on the national highway without taking permission.
Shuvendu’s lawyer claims, “The National Highway Act says that no one can block the road and march without permission”.
It may be noted that Abhishek has been on a state tour since April 24 as part of Trinamool’s ‘Nabjoar programme’. He reached Malda via National Highway 34 early this month via Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, North and South Dinajpur. After that, he entered Farakka in Murshidabad district through that national highway. Shuvendu alleged that he blocked the national highway in several places during this episode. State opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari filed a case in the vacation division bench on this day. It is said that the case may be heard in the Division Bench of the Chief Justice on June 7.
