S&P/TSX composite down more than 100 points, US equity markets also lower

Canada’s main stock index fell more than 100 points, mainly due to losses in the industrial and technology sectors, while US stock markets also fell.

The composite S&P/TSX index fell 126.15 points to 19,058.39.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 144.34 points to 30,039.44. The S&P 500 index fell 36.98 points to 3,752.95, while the Nasdaq composite fell 184.91 points to 11,035.28.

The Canadian dollar traded for 74.09 cents in the US against 74.64 cents in the US on Wednesday.

The November crude contract was 53 cents more expensive to $83.47 a barrel and the October natural gas contract fell 23 cents to $7.55 per mmBTU.

The December gold contract rose US$4.70 to US$1,680.40 an ounce and the December copper contract rose one cent to US$3.48 per pound.
