Sri Lankan Tamil Problem Consultation Meeting – Dinamani
Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickramasinghe has called for an all-party meeting to find a solution to the Sri Lankan Tamil problem. In this meeting, the Tamil National Federation has decided to present demands including federalism.
Sri Lanka’s 75th Independence Day will be celebrated on February 4 next year. In order to find a solution to the Sri Lankan Tamil problem by then, the country’s President Ranil Wickramasinghe recently called for an all-party meeting. He made this call while speaking in the country’s parliament and said that it is important to develop trust between the Sinhalese and the Tamils to find a solution to the long-standing dispute. He also said that he wants to hold an all-party meeting after December 11. It seems that he has called this meeting to talk about the demand for political autonomy for Sri Lankan Tamils.
In this meeting, the Tamil National Federation of Parties representing the Tamils of Northern and Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka has decided to participate. In this regard, a meeting was held on Friday at the residence of Tamil National Federation leader I. Sambandhan in Colombo, capital of Sri Lanka.
Representatives of all political parties in the Northern and Eastern provinces participated in this meeting. They discussed the issues to be discussed in the all-party meeting.
At that time, it was decided to present demands in the all-party meeting, such as holding the provincial council polls, contributing to the creation of a new constitution for the areas where Tamils live, stopping the seizure of lands owned by Tamils, and federalism.
Before meeting the president, a meeting of the Tamil political parties will be held again, a person close to the Tamil National Federation said on Saturday.
