Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1 announced a record Rs 1,12,899 crore for the education department in the Union Budget 2023-24.
This is higher than the 2022-23 budget estimate of Rs. 8,621 crore is more and Rs. 1,04,278 crore showing a growth of about 8.26 over the previous Budget Estimates (BE).

While presenting the budget, Nirmala Sitharaman made major announcements on education, including setting up a National Digital Library, physical libraries at the state and panchayat levels, providing books to children in every state and panchayat, opening an institute for teacher training and establishing 14 Eklavya model schools. The Center will also recruit 38,800 teachers and support staff for 748 Eklavya model residential schools in the next three years.
