Hyderabad, Velikam :Agencies are being billed even on days when the sweeping machines that sweep the roads in the greater city are not working. When it rains, they give bills showing that they have done work even if the road is blocked. With this Baldia is squandering the treasury and wasting public money. There are a total of 35 sweeping machines in all the circles in GHMC. Out of this, 17 are owned by Baldia and the remaining 18 are rented. Out of which the agencies will get Rs. per vehicle per year. Baldia will pay more than 1 crore 13 lakhs. Thus every year Rs. 20 crores and 40 lakhs are being spent.

Daily rent of Rs.31 thousand per machine. However.. there is no need to give a bill for the day when the machines are not working. When it rains, there is no way to clean the road. If there is flood water on the roads, the machines will not ply. Bills were paid to the agencies even during heavy rains last year. Officials are handing out bills showing that work has been done on rainy days. Baldia’s funds are going by the wayside as even the higher officials do not pay much attention to this.

While monitoring the performance..

The officials who have to monitor the performance of their own vehicles as well as the sweeping machines hired from the agency do not care. There is no calculation of how much diesel is being used. There are allegations that the rents are being billed at the zonal level and are being paid at will. Bills are given to agencies without collecting any details. Criticism is pouring in for paying the bills without cleaning the roads when it rains heavily.

This is evidenced by the sanctioning of bills for many days in LB Nagar zone during last year’s rainy season. Apart from here, bills were given during rains in all zones. On the other hand, the corporators are making complaints to the Baldia Commissioner about the performance of the sweeping machines. They say that there is no benefit in this. It is suggested not to waste public money. They want to buy new ones instead of rented ones.

While working at night..

Sweeping machines mostly work at night. Roads cannot be cleaned due to daytime traffic. That’s why officials say that night is doing the work. They say they work all night. However.. machines are not seen cleaning the roads in many areas. In some places, the roads are not clear unless they are turning something like Nam Ke Vaste.

To monitor their performance, one has to stay in the field at night. Are the machines working even once a month? Or not seeing that. Even the superiors are leaving as if they have not seen it. As a result, bills are being paid even on days when the sweeping machines are not working.
