Ambassador of Vietnam to Pakistan Pham Anh Tuan expressed these views while addressing the 79th anniversary of Vietnam National Day here at the embassy of Vietnam.
He said at that moment, Vietnam was named on the world map and the country entered a new era – the era of national independence, the era of the Vietnamese people became the true masters of the their country, society and their destinies.
The envoy said that in the past 79 years, the people of Vietnam have devoted their lives, efforts and wisdom towards national independence, freedom and happiness for all the people of Vietnam.
On this occasion, “I believe that the development potential between Vietnam and Pakistan remains high, and the Embassy of Vietnam in Pakistan will continue to work closely with Pakistani friends to expand this relationship,” he said.
It has been 52 years since Vietnam and Pakistan established diplomatic relations.
The Ambassador said that in the last 52 years, friendship and cooperation between the two countries has been developed in multi-faceted factors such as politics, economic cooperation, commercial relations. We also have a common interest in the development of our countries and integration in the regions and in the world for the benefit of our people.
Today, bilateral trade relations between the two countries have emerged as one of the most important fields of cooperation and the volume of two-way trade between Vietnam and Pakistan has reached $705 million in 2023 and in the first six months of 2024 , this volume is about 402 million, an increase of 28% compared to the same period last year.
It is expected to reach $900 million in 2024.
He said that in addition to this, the number of delegation exchanges for business and visits has increased year by year and the two countries have signed a number of treaties and agreements, which create a legal framework to promote cooperation for mutual interest.
“Our cooperation mechanism includes the Joint Intergovernmental Committee, the Trade Commission and the Bilateral Political Consultation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs. To strengthen the trade relationship, I suggest that the two sides could coordinate to maintain the activities of promotion of trade and investment as fairs, exhibition, forum, exploration”.
“We welcome and will do our utmost to create favorable conditions for all Pakistani businesses doing business with Vietnam, especially in the fields of cotton, the production of pharmaceutical, surgical and information technology instruments that are Pakistan’s strengths,” he said.
Vietnam has strengths in the export of tea, rubber, pepper, dried nuts, textile products, chemicals that Pakistan may be interested in.
The Ambassador said that in trade and investment, Vietnam has cooperation with 220 countries and territories and Vietnam is an active member of nearly 70 international and regional organizations such as the UN, the WTO, the ‘ASEAN, APEC just to name a few. Vietnam has been proactively integrated into the global economy and at the same time expanding international cooperation in many areas.
In 2023, Vietnam’s GDP was $430 billion, the GDP growth rate increased by 5.8%; Income per Capital earned 4300 USD and in the Agricultural Industry, Vietnam became the largest exporter of pepper and cashew in the world, and the second exporter of rice with more than 7.1 million tons of rice valued at approx. $4 billion.
The Ambassador said that Vietnam is known as a developing economy, a country with a stable political environment, colorful culture and friendly people. We would like to be friends with all countries and peoples who love peace, freedom and friendship. We seek to resolve disputes between countries through negotiation and international law.
He said that from a once impoverished and backward country, Vietnam has emerged from the socio-economic crisis to become a middle-income developing country.
The life of the people has improved a lot, their socio-political situation has stabilized; its independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity were maintained; its foreign relations have been expanded and Vietnam’s prestige and position have been strengthened in the international arena, he said.
