Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner M. Thennarson took a swipe at AMC’s head of engineering and the engineer officer of the central zone for the complaints persisting despite spending lakhs to tackle water pollution.
In a recent review meeting, Commissioner Thennarson said that despite repeated insistence on leveling roads and footpaths, building quality roads in the city, there is no improvement in road works. It is learned that the engineer officers do not come out of the old system and adopt the new work system by discarding the old work system and the quality of the road is not working seriously to the head of Engineering- Roads and Bridges Department of AMC. The AMC Commissioner expressed his great displeasure over the fact that the road works in the city are not being done properly yet, and he urged that the work of road, footpath leveling, manhole and drain cover leveling etc. should be done properly and properly.
Taking into consideration the complaints of pollution in the central zone, although lakhs of rupees are being spent for a single place to lay water and drainage lines, the engineer officer of the central zone took umbrage regarding the fact that following the complaints of pollution, the works including changing the lines are being done again at the same place. The commissioner said that after pollution or other problems occur in any place, after changing the water-sewage lines at the cost of millions, why are there complaints of pollution again in the same place and why millions are being spent again for that? Why is work done twice for one place? The engineer officer was not likely to give any answer to such a probing question. In fact, after spending millions to solve the problem, there should be no problem created again.
