The first case of a new variant of monkeypox was reported in the Scandinavian country of Sweden.
According to the Swedish Public Health Agency, a person in Stockholm has been diagnosed with a new variant of monkeypox. The victim had traveled to an African region where the monkeypox variant is endemic.
On the other hand, the news agency says that this is the first case of mpox variant clade one B outside of African countries. The spread of M. pox clade a B variant started in Congo in September 2023.
According to the report, 548 people have died in Congo from the outbreak of the monkey pox variant. The World Health Organization has declared monkeypox as a global health emergency
