With the civic body failing to learn from its past mistakes, potholed roads will again add to the woes of commuters in the coming monsoon season in different parts of the city.
People are making a ruckus when the road accidents are reported on the waterlogged roads, but this time again the civic body has failed to make repairs before the monsoon season.
The potholes can be seen at Haibowal, Dugri, Brown Road in Old City, Gol Bazar in Model Town, Jassian Road, Gill Road etc. Residents reprimanded the authorities for risking their lives.
Jaskirat Singh, one of the residents of Model Town area, said that a few years ago, a girl on a two-wheeler had an accident on the Model Town-Jawaddi road following an accident when her vehicle hit a pothole. He had suffered a serious head injury. Potholes are not visible on the waterlogged roads, due to which many accidents are taking place. It is the duty of the civic body to keep the roads in good condition throughout the year. Since they have failed to perform their duty, they should at least get the roads repaired before the monsoon season,” Singh said.
Similarly, a factory owner Namandeep Singh said that Gill Road is in a bad condition for a long time and nothing has been done at the ground level despite repeated requests from officials and public representatives. The waterlogged road becomes difficult to cross especially for people riding two-wheelers and accidents happen almost every year, he said, adding that the authorities still have some time to repair the roads before monsoon. A massive campaign should be launched. hits the city.
Meanwhile, officials said that the work of repairing the roads is on.
Additional commissioner of MC Aditya Dachwal said that repair work is going on in the city. He said it was disrupted due to rain in the city in the recent past, but efforts are on to repair the roads before the monsoon arrives in the city.
