Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in a post on social media ‘X’ on Monday that reinforcing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of zero tolerance on terrorism, SIMI has been banned under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). declared an ‘unlawful organization’ for the next 5 years.

The Vajpayee government imposed the ban

SIMI was banned for the first time by the Vajpayee government in the year 2001. Since then this ban has been extended every 5 years. The final ban on SIMI was imposed on January 31, 2019. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, “SIM has been found involved in promoting terrorism, disturbing peace and communal harmony to threaten sovereignty , security and integrity of India.”
