‘Top Congress leaders used to talk about my blouse’: Former Assam women’s minister Bismita Gogoi quits party

A woman Congress leader in Assam has raised her voice against the misbehavior of women in her own party. Bismita Gogoi, former Congress MLA from Khumtai, Kaliabor, said that when former Congress Party President Rahul Gandhi commented on her blouse during the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, it had a negative impact on her life. Bismita Gogoi has now joined the BJP. She said that this incident happened when she was wearing a blouse with a lotus flower design.

She said, “I have not yet said that the design of my blouse is a lotus flower. It is a common thing to wear blouses in this design. I find it hard to even talk about blouses in public here. This incident took place during the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, when it was organized at the state level in Khumtai. I wore this dress that time. Seeing this, the Congress leaders thought I would join the BJP.

Bismita Gogoi further told that the Congress high command also discussed about the same issue at ‘Rajiv Bhawan’. Bismita Gogoi, who is a government minister in Assam, said that this incident was very embarrassing for her, when she came to know about it, she cried. Bismita Gogoi said that she was not only mentally tortured but also kept away from internal party meetings. He seems to be insulting a woman, it hurts me a lot.

Bismita Gogoi said that her reputation was damaged that day. He asked how can people stop a party where anti-women talk is happening? He alleged that he was mentally tortured at every step. Bismita Gogoi told that the Congress does not want her to be involved in its work. Their participation in making important decisions is eliminated. More than 150 leaders of Congress and ‘All Assam Students Union (AASU)’ joined the BJP on Sunday (January 28, 2024).

Another woman leader from Assam, Angkita Dutta, also accused Youth Congress President Srinivas BV of harassment. After this, the Congress expelled Dr. Angkita Dutta in the party for 6 years. In her complaint she said, “Srinivasa has been harassing and torturing her for the last six months. Making sexual comments. Using abusive words. They are threatening them with dire consequences if they complain about it to senior party officials. .
