Tusker ‘Arikomban’ now in Kanyakumari forest range
Tamil Nadu forest department officials have traced the Kanyakumari forest range, ‘Arikomban’ wild tusker that was captured from Cumbum in Theni district and shifted to upper Kodaiyar forest in Tirunelveli district.
According to Ilayaraja, Divisional Forest Officer, Kanyakumari range, the radio collar attached to the elephant has indicated that the tusker has reached the forest area after covering a distance of about 15 km from the upper Kodayar dam area.
The Tamil Nadu Forest Department is keeping a close vigil with a batch of ten forest officials doing round-the-clock duty to monitor the elephant.
The name ‘Arikomban’ was coined after he entered several ration shops and houses in search of rice in the Chinnakanal area of Idukki district.
