Two people have been taken to hospital after allegedly jumping into the sea from the pier.

An eyewitness said a section of the beach has been closed while emergency services have joined the incident.

Emergency vehicles were seen parked at the entrance to Palace Pier on the roadside by the sea at around 7 pm today.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Two men who allegedly jumped into the sea from Brighton Palace Pier have been taken to hospital.

“The police were informed about the incident on Sunday, August 28 at around 6.55 pm.

“Officers supported emergency service partners at the scene and the men were released into the care of an ambulance service and taken to hospital.”

The South East Coast Ambulance Service and RNLI have been contacted for comment.
