Two women arrested under POCSO Act for forcing minors into prostitution
The Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) in Thane on Thursday arrested two women for allegedly forcing two minor girls into prostitution. The women were arrested from Anil Palace Lodging and Boarding in Kalyan.
Senior police inspector Mahesh Patil said that a tip-off was received from social worker Binu Varghese that women were bringing two 17-year-old girls to be sold for Rs 1.5 lakh.
A trap is laid at the lodge with a fake customer and the girls are rescued. The arrested women have been identified as Anju Sisodia and Sonia Sisodia, both 35 years old and residents of Koparkhairane, Navi Mumbai.
On interrogation, they said that they got involved in flesh trade as they did not have any source of income. Kalyan’s Mahatma Phule Chowk police station has registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
