Today is the second day of the Congress’ Chantan Shaver in Adepur. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, convener of the Farmers and Agriculture Committee and former Chief Minister of Haryana, has attacked the Modi government at a press conference between Chantan Shaver and Debt Waiver. Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that the group formed on agriculture in Chantan Shaver has given many suggestions like making law on MSP and setting up a commission on waiver of farmers’ loans. Bhupinder Singh Hooda said that MSP, Climate Change, PM Farmers Insurance Scheme, Green Revolution have been discussed in the committee. Now there is a demand to start the Evergreen Revolution.

Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, “Farmers ‘loans, MSP legal guarantees, effects of climate change on agriculture, benefits of direct migration, doubling of farmers’ income, PM crop insurance scheme, green revolution, white revolution etc. We have many questions. The NDA government promised to double the income of farmers by 2022 but did not fulfill it. The debt on farmers has doubled. Like loans, farmers should have the right to negotiate on loans. ”

Hooda said if farmers are unable to repay their loans, their land should not be auctioned off. As in the case of Madras Loan, the same should apply to farmers. Debts of farmers should be forgiven and they should be freed from full debt. MSPs must have legal guarantees. He said that farmers should have universal insurance for all crops. Currently, only selected crops are insured.

Bhupinder Singh Hooda further said, “Debt which was Rs 9.64 lakh crore on March 31, 2014 has increased to Rs 16.80 lakh crore today. This means that the farmer is indebted. The central government has not given much relief to the farmers to get them out of debt. Whatever Congress governments we had, we forgave the debts of the farmers, for example, the debt of Rs 15,600 crore was forgiven in Rajasthan. In Madhya Pradesh, a debt of Rs 11,912 crore was forgiven in 2018. In Punjab, a debt of Rs. 4696 crore was forgiven in the year 2017. Similarly, loans of Rs 22,548 crore to farmers in Karnataka were waived. The Congress government did its best to solve the problems of the farmers.

“The first suggestion is that a national agricultural debt relief commission should be set up to address the grievances of the farmers,” Hooda said. No one’s land should be auctioned and no criminal case should be filed if the farmer is in default. There should be legal guarantee on MSP.
