Mumbai – Major Indian indices started the new week at lows amid mixed global cues. BSE Oil & Gas, BSE Energy and BSE Information Technology indices were hit while almost all sectors experienced declines.

All sectors declined except BSE Metals and BSE Real Estate. BSE Metals was the best performing index with a gain of 1.53%. It was led by National Aluminum Company and Hindalco Industries with growth of over 3% each. 2,050 shares advanced and 1,328 shares declined in the Mumbai Stock Exchange. Advance-decline ratio remained in favor of advance.

The BSE Sensex was down 0.34% at 62,655 at 11:40 am on Monday. The Nifty50 index was down 0.31% at 18,638. Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank and State Bank of India were the top gainers in the Sensex. While Tech Mahindra, Ultratech Cement Company and Reliance Industries were down.

The rupee rose against the US dollar on Monday. Statements by the US Federal Reserve chairman on slowing interest rate hikes and falling crude oil prices in international markets eased the pressure on the rupee. As a result, India’s foreign exchange reserves have increased for the third consecutive week.
