US firms happy with results of participation in China Import Expo

US companies are pleased with the results of their participation in the China Import Expo.

Shanghai: US companies are pleased with the results of participation in the China International Import Expo (CIIE) and look forward to moving forward with the expo, said US-China Business Council President Craig Allen on Sunday.

US companies are investing heavily in CIIE and are pleased with the results of their investments, the business council chairman said in an interview with Xinhua.

According to Allen, CIIE, the world’s first import-themed national-scale expo, was attended by about 200 US companies this year. “Every company wants a little more floor space.”

“We respect the show and want to grow with the show,” Allen said.
Established in 1973, the US-China Business Council represents more than 200 US companies that do business with China.
Speaking about the importance of CIIE, Allen said that it is a great place to meet Chinese buyers, government officials, suppliers and friends from all over China.

He also said that many US companies will hold ceremonies for the signing of MoUs and Letters of Intent, and there is a lot of business activity in CIIE.

Noting that China has produced about 30 percent of global growth over the past ten years, “we are naturally interested in all elements of the Chinese economy and sales across every segment,” Allen said.

Official data showed that Sino-US goods trade totaled 3.8 trillion yuan (US$524.34 billion) in the first three quarters, up 8 percent from the same period in 2021.

Allen said that hundreds of millions of Chinese have been brought out of poverty and are becoming much more prosperous. He said the Chinese are more concerned about their health care and education and want good services and products as they become rich.
“We feel we are competitively positioned to supply them,” he said.
He also called for more dialogue between the two countries.

“I’m here to listen to and represent the views of American companies. And I’m also here to listen to Chinese friends, the government and companies, and take those messages back to America.

The fifth CIIE, which runs until 10 November, attracts 284 industry-leading enterprises from 145 countries, regions and international organizations, including some of the world’s top 500 companies. – Xinhua
