Women should be prevented from interfering with husbands in local bodies: OPS-Dinamani

AIADMK co-ordinator O. Panneelselvam has urged the Tamil Nadu government to stop the interference of husbands and relatives in the positions held by women in local bodies.

In this connection, Awa released a statement on Saturday: The husband of Shamila Gandhi, a 34th Ward Councilor within the Chennai Corporation, and her supporters came to the Council office and intimidated the people. There were also complaints that Chitra Devi’s brother-in-law went with her supporters and intimidated the food shop owner. I issued a statement condemning this.

However, there are reports that DMK women councilors, women council chairpersons and women corporation mayors are being worked on by their husbands.

Currently, the husband of female Maya Indrani in Madurai Corporation has come to know that the dominance of her relatives is flying the flag. Due to this, when the AIADMK councilors went to the mayor to lodge a complaint regarding the Madurai corporation issue, the mayor’s husband and two others were injured when his men prevented the reporters from entering.

The fact that their husbands and relatives are in power instead of women is an act that promotes feminism. O. Panniyoselvam has said that the Tamil Nadu government should stop this.
