X, Elon Musk’s social media platform in Brazil, has announced the immediate closure of its operations, but the company’s services will continue to be available in the country.
According to the media, X in Brazil took this decision after a Supreme Court judge threatened to arrest the company’s legal representative.
The judge of the Supreme Court De Morris, in an order, also indicated the possibility to fine the company and arrest the representative of the company for not complying with the content censorship request.
A statement published by X said that, despite the court order, the company’s Brazilian staff have no authority over censorship and are threatened by the court.
According to media reports, X had previously also handled specific accounts and locations in India on government orders, however, the company had expressed its concern over such orders.
