Today, the UN Security Council is set to vote on a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, as presented by the 10 elected members of the Security Council. This resolution comes amidst escalating violence in the region, with reports of numerous Palestinian casualties resulting from Israeli airstrikes.

Tragically, in the past 24 hours alone, many Palestinians have lost their lives due to Israeli airstrikes. In Deir al-Balah, 18 Palestinians were martyred in the bombing of a house, while more than 27, including women and children, were killed in the bombing of 5 houses in Rafah. Additionally, airstrikes around al-Shafa hospital have claimed further Palestinian lives.

The situation is compounded by reports that Israel has halted food containers from entering northern Gaza, exacerbating food shortages in the area. Arab media estimates that 70 percent of the population in northern Gaza faces severe food shortages as a result.

Elsewhere in the region, protests in solidarity with Palestine have erupted. In Oman, demonstrators gathered outside the Israeli embassy in the capital, Muscat, with women among the protesters. Clashes between protesters and police occurred as the latter attempted to disperse the crowd, resulting in the arrest of several women.

Similar rallies were organized in Tehran, Iran’s capital, in support of Palestine, underscoring the widespread condemnation of Israel’s actions and calls for international intervention to halt the violence in Gaza.
